Medical Ordering
Made Mobile
Deforce Medical is a full-service healthcare supplier supporting home care professionals, nurses, and care organizations with fast, reliable delivery of medical products.
Healthcare professionals needed a way to order medical products efficiently while on the go, directly from patient homes and care facilities. The existing ordering process was time-consuming and prone to errors, especially when managing orders across multiple patients. Deforce Medical needed a mobile solution that combined barcode scanning with patient-specific order management.
Ordering medical supplies in the field requires speed, accuracy, and the ability to link products to specific patients - all while working in demanding care environments.
We developed a mobile ordering application built on our Scan 2 Order module, extended with custom features for patient management, order history, and a Laravel-based backend API. Using our six-step framework, we delivered a solution tailored to the daily demands of healthcare delivery.
1. IDENTIFY & VALIDATE
We shadowed nurses and home care professionals to understand their ordering workflows. The key pain point: managing product orders across multiple patients while moving between care locations. Manual ordering was slow, error-prone, and disconnected from patient records.

2. IMPACT MAPPING
We mapped features to healthcare outcomes. Patient-linked ordering reduces errors in multi-patient environments. Order history enables quick reorders of recurring supplies. Barcode scanning eliminates manual product code entry. Each feature was designed to save time and improve accuracy in care delivery.
3. TECHNICAL AUDIT
We assessed Deforce Medical's existing e-commerce platform and identified integration requirements. The audit revealed the need for a custom Laravel-based backend API to bridge the mobile app with their central ordering system, ensuring fast and reliable communication.
4. INTERACTIVE PROTOTYPING
We built prototypes that simulated real care scenarios - scanning products at a patient's bedside, switching between patient profiles, and reviewing past orders. Testing with nurses validated the workflow and identified usability improvements for one-handed operation.
5. DEVELOPMENT & LAUNCH
The Flutter app was developed alongside a custom Laravel backend API that integrates with Deforce Medical's e-commerce platform. The app features barcode scanning, patient management with integrated search, order history per patient, and support for both individual nurses and larger care organizations.
6. ITERATE & OPTIMIZE
Post-launch feedback from care professionals drives ongoing improvements. Usage data reveals ordering patterns per patient type, most-scanned products, and peak ordering times. These insights inform feature enhancements and workflow optimizations.
The Deforce Medical app empowers care professionals to place accurate orders directly from the field - reducing errors, saving time, and improving efficiency. A digital solution built to meet the daily demands of healthcare delivery.
