Summit's legacy mobile application needed a complete rewrite. The existing app was showing its age. Difficult to maintain, limited in extensibility, and falling behind modern UX standards. They needed a partner who could not only rewrite the app but also implement a new design and add features, all within a tight six-week window.
Event scanning demands extreme speed, rock-solid offline behaviour, and compatibility with both consumer devices and enterprise scanning hardware, all delivered within a six-week deadline.
In only six weeks, we delivered a complete rewrite of Summit's mobile application in Flutter, implementing a new design and adding new features along the way. Using our six-step framework in an accelerated timeline, we navigated the complexity of offline-first architecture and multi-device compatibility.

We analyzed Summit's legacy application to identify critical requirements: scanning speed must match the legacy app, full offline behaviour was essential for event venues with poor connectivity, and integration with Zebra handheld scanners was non-negotiable. These became the go/no-go criteria for the rewrite.

2. IMPACT MAPPING
We mapped features to event success metrics. Fast scanning reduces queue times at exhibition stands. Offline-first ensures data capture continues even in crowded venues with congested networks. Questionnaire features help stand holders qualify leads on the spot. Each feature was designed to maximize lead capture quality.
3. TECHNICAL AUDIT
We benchmarked the legacy app's scanning performance to set concrete speed targets for the Flutter rewrite. The audit assessed Summit's backend API for data retrieval and lead synchronisation, and evaluated the Zebra SDK integration requirements for handheld scanner devices.
4. RAPID PROTOTYPING
Given the six-week timeline, prototyping focused on the highest-risk elements: scanning speed in Flutter and offline synchronisation reliability. Early prototypes demonstrated that Flutter could achieve scanning speeds on par with the legacy application, the critical validation needed to proceed.
5. DEVELOPMENT & LAUNCH
The Flutter app was built for iOS and Android, integrating with Summit's backend for data retrieval and lead synchronisation. An offline/online synchronisation mechanism was built to ensure reliable operation in connectivity-challenged event venues. The app also integrates with the Zebra scanner SDK for enterprise handheld devices.
6. ITERATE & OPTIMIZE
Post-launch event data drives ongoing improvements. Scanning performance metrics, sync reliability statistics, and user feedback from stand holders at real events inform feature enhancements and performance optimizations.
The Summit Lead app rewrite demonstrates how a focused, time-boxed approach can deliver a complete platform migration. In six weeks, we delivered not just a rewrite but an improved application with a new design and additional features, all while maintaining the scanning speed that Summit's clients depend on.

The Summit Lead app allows stand holders (exhibitors) to scan event visitors, view and update their details, and fill in questionnaires, all designed for the fast pace of live events.

The Summit Lead app was rewritten from scratch in Flutter, implementing a new design created in collaboration with Xplore Group sister company Fabrikate. The app runs on regular iOS and Android devices as well as Zebra handheld scanners, providing flexibility for different event setups and stand holder preferences. Summit Lead (V2) is available on both the App Store and Google Play Store.
